Holding hands // a prayer for our children

Holding hands. It seals my heart with his as we walk into the movies, he’s with me. She gets on her tiptoes to stretch her arm up as we walk across the street.

When she’s sleepy, she wants my hand in hers; under the blankie.
I wonder how that feels for her, the little one. If she feels safe from fears. Secure with her mammas hand meshing with hers.

When I feel alone, He takes mine and guides me through the day.
Eyes are heavy and the day is just new. He reaches down and holds my hand tightly, reassuringly.
When all is lost, I don’t understand, I can’t see beyond the fog. He takes my hand. Delicate like a soft kiss on the cheek.
It makes sense, this life today, and he is still there..constant and strong.

At times, pulling me in his direction..showing me the way.
When Reese no longer wants to interlock her fingers with mine, my prayer is she reaches out for the hand her momma holds. The hand that guides, delivers, forgives, understands.

The hands that formed her flesh and the ones that will hold her during her dance here and after this.
My prayer, my sweet girl, is that you know your maker. Intimately, lovingly, that you seek Him through all of your days.
She will just be 2 come March, I see her growing too fast..life speeding as she embraces her independence and sharp mind.

Ephesians 1:16-19 – “I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that…the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe…”

Romans 15:13 – “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

As we move Reese to her big girl bed and set the crib up in the new nursery, I think about what matters most in their lives and mine. I pray for health and happiness, but I desire most that Romans 15:13 would come alive in their hearts radically. That the hand of God would captivate and lead their life.
